American Military Executes Lethal Strike in Pacific, Resulting in Four Fatalities
According to a high-ranking defense official, the American armed forces carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four individuals.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was transiting along a known drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”
Context and Prior Actions
The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, vowing to escalate the military buildup.
Just on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Tactics Amidst Pressure
The administration has faced increasing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.
While the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official appeared to suggest a wider geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”
This indicates the military campaign may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's current government.
